Driving on Empty Damages Your Car

Low gas or driving on empty results in your fuel pump being exposed to air and increases its risk of being overheated. The gas provides lubrication and having an almost empty tank can damage bearings and decrease that lubrication. And when the gas level is low, it can cause debris and junk to be sucked up and clog the filter.

It is recommended to keep your gas above quarter of a tank in your car.

You would be surprised how many people ignore this and allow there car to get to empty time and time again. I personally, never let my gas tank to get below quarter tank, but if you are one of those individuals that always goes to empty before filling up, you are actually causing damage to your car.

My advice, don’t do it. Yes, it is understandable that there may be a time here or there where you end up in a situation like this, but don’t make it a regular habit. Think, is it really worth the amount of damage you are causing to your car?

How far can you go when your gas gage hits E?

This depends on your vehicle and can range from 25 miles to 100 miles. Larger vehicles tend to not make it as far; whereas, smaller vehicles can go 3-4 times further. My advice, don’t let it get to this point. Not only will it add unnecessary stress, but you are harming your vehicle in the process. Don’t do it.

Final Thoughts:

Filling up gas is so much easier, less time consuming, and less expensive than having to repair damage that you have done to your car. Letting your car get to empty consistently will cause damage, and it is not worth it. Help your car last longer and not empty out your wallet, and just fill up before you hit the quarter mark.
