Are we there yet? Three months into this journey to my next chapter, I can't help but wonder sometimes: Am I doing this right? How long will this take? Every day, I celebrate posts announcing an exciting new launch, a new role, etc. Sometimes, doubt reaches out to tug at my hem. But then I remember the thing that all too often goes unspoken and unseen: The In-Between It's the liminal space as necessary as it is temporary, a threshold that we must experience as part of the process. It's not always comfortable, and sometimes it’s difficult to sit with the uncertainty. Initially, I wanted to visualize The In-Between as the waiting room at a posh day spa, with fluffy robes and cucumber water, where I await the escort who, with hushed tones and a gentle hand, will guide me to my next destination. But it's not that. It's a place of exploration and vulnerability. I am learning to “live the questions,” as Rilke wrote. And no, we're not there yet.

Karen, we don't know each other well but I have to tell you...when we worked together on the HBO Max Upfront, there was one zoom call in particular where I thought: "note to self...learn to politely yet firmly command respect from a room of execs like this Karen Smith gal". You are extremely impressive and clearly a master at successfully communicating and delivering solutions concerning multi-faceted internal teams and external stakeholders. (One of the external stakeholders being an A-list celebrity, in this case.) I'm sure you're going to find a team who appreciates you very very soon, it's just such a weird time right now in our industry. All my very best to you!

I’ve been there and love your visual of the day spa. I also learned to just relax and let things flow, yet continue my manifestations. Everything reveals itself in time.

Thank you for this! The in-between is so hard, but I trust it will be completely worth it. Thinking of you & looking forward to what awaits.

As I was reminded by a scene from Ted Lasso… the dark forrest is not at the beginning or end in our fairytales…yet as you beautifully write times of uncertainty are necessary. Cheers to embracing the journey and “living the questions”. Thanks for the inspiration Karen Jones !

Hey Karen, I am literally never on linkedin, so I didn't know you left HBO. Congratulations! I can't even imagine how difficult that decision was. But you are truly a tenacious woman and I know you will be successful at whatever you choose along the path to your next destination. Sending all the hugs and good wishes.
