Navigating the nuances of literal-ness as an autistic.

It's like in that case, it seems like they would prefer I embrace the humor and not really hear the message. And so when I respond to the message, the response is always, oh well, I was just joking. And so then my question is, what am I supposed to do then? Accept your message, whatever it might be, a positive one, or a negative one wrapped in humor, I'm just supposed to accept it and carry on

When & when not to take something literally... THAT is the question. πŸ€”

And I think that that is a big reason why you see people like this boy kind of like living amongst us without and kind of doing things and maybe being passive aggressive or whatever, that kind of just gets pushed under the rug instead of, hey, you're not supposed to be doing that. That's what that is. And I almost wish we had more of the latter

This is interesting because I hadn't considered the type of relationship when I'm observing these things. I found, though, that it seemed there were a lot of times when I would see the subtitles, as you put it like that. And when I addressed it, people would become angry, as if I'm not supposed to see it and I'm not supposed to acknowledge it. And I'm beginning to think maybe the people who would get angry maybe were not I don't know

But if you say communicating between the words to anybody who is neurotypical, this is interpreted in a different way and seen as insulting and like, deceitful. And that's not what I mean. There's this other way of communicating that they do anyway

You. Yeah, that's why I'm here, as opposed to Facebook, because I was hoping that I could hammer out some of these fine details with somebody who could bounce the ball back a little with me as I'm writing on the side for my book. And I'm not sold on abstract thinkers either. I don't have a term to replace it yet, so that's what I'm using. I'm a little more sold on literal thinkers

I want to say there's maybe some formula, there some percentage or ratio there because I've definitely seen neurodivergent, people who can communicate more like a neurotypical and some neurotypicals communicate more neurodivergent. And of course that could be argued that maybe they're also neurodivergent, but I can only think of this somewhat in analogy

And maybe I need to get the book, and then maybe we'll be able to pick this topic up again and take it to a whole other level. Once again, Christine, thank you so much. I honestly believe you're the reason why I'm still here

I love that review. He just really helped me understand communication in a lot of ways of like, there's these associative symbols and common sense is really just almost like word association or symbol association. And anyway, there's just so much in there that I was like, Oh
