“Distraction can be selfish but so is a goldfish”

Writing this blog post in hope to educate Entrepreneurs, Business people about 3 simple villans that can kill your business in a second and it all starts with the risky threat of distraction.

DISTRACTION:

As per scientists the age of technology has left humans with a short attention span of 9 seconds even a goldfish can’t wait to run away when not entertained. It’s the shiny attention object, the shiny bells syndrome!

Your audience, fans, followers are distracted and when they are distracted it quickly discourages them away from your message. They won’t listen to what you have to say.

“WHAT DISTRACTION DOES IS THREATENS YOUR CONNECTION WITH OTHERS”

It’s a given fact that we will be bombarded with social media ads, placement ads and any type of branding that can capture our eyes however we have a choice to set boundaries and discern what is a distraction v’s what is value… Truth is when we add value to our message we fascinate people and when we fascinate them they became intensely focused where attention is needed and where we can build a richly connection.

COMPETITION:

When you hear people say you better hurry up or your going to miss the boat it’s a tactic to compete! I grew up thinking competition was popular and over-achieving was a way of life! The trophies, certificates, medals displayed at home were a reminder of what I had to do to achieve happiness! What I found out was that you don’t always win and when you don’t win does that makes us any happier? Not!

What happens to Snapchat when “InstaStories” (Instagram) has created a mini-me version app and fun visuals? You become DIFFERENT not better than someone else. When you invest in yourself or your brand to become “better” you lose not only money but the ability to focus on your greatest strengths.

Let me explain… Different is better. Being better will have you running around in a circle. The only way “better” works is when you simply are good at something and attempting to move up the ladder. A higher level. Do it differently.

“COMPETITION THREATENS YOUR PERFORMANCE TO STAND OUT AND WIN”

By focusing on the competition we are sending a signal to our customers, authority figures, clients, fans and eyeballs we are more fascinated by proving a point and being right in arguments then focusing on our own lane and that can bring a bad reputation not well received by others.

Should we care what others think? No we shouldn’t however if your in business you better care because those are eyeballs converting into customers or investors.

Don’t focus on what you do, focus on who you are, that will get you further because belief is the mother of all! And as I love to say

“I don’t compete, I ELEVATE”! :)

COMMODITIZATION:

If and when others identify you as a commodity, you are replaceable and vulnerable. People suspect you’re just like everyone else without any special qualities.

When people ask you what’s your profession? What skill sets do you have? And you don’t know how to answer you’re becoming a commodity. If you are, woe on you! Woe on you! You have no choice but to lower your prices because people will not see reason to pay for your services.

You will have to spend more on branding and marketing when you find out nobody is buzzing about you or your brand.

When you can no longer fascinate, you become a commodity. Although I say once you fascinate you fascinate for life know that you can also become a commodity if you just sit back and chill as technology is evolving so fast that we can become lost and no longer have fanatics.

Today it isn’t about developing fans, it’s about developing fanatics! And you’re not going to get fanatics by playing it safe — #fortunemagazine

And to end this blog know that:

  • “Distraction” will not receive your audience attention. They won’t listen.
  • “Competition”will distract you from built-to-last type of work, meet deadlines and unnecessary theatricals (drama)
  • “Commoditization” will put you in a category like everyone else. You will be common and not unique.
