There are few things as satisfying as capturing the fabric and texture of life’s unscripted moments.

-Joe DiMeo

“Viewing life’s fleeting moments through my camera lens helps me to understand the world and people who surround me. Oftentimes, it’s not easy to interpret what happens in the moment, but my photography, coupled with my passion for writing, capturing videos, and podcasting, allows me to relive these moments and gain an evolving understanding and perspective through distance and reflection. I credit my passion for street photography to my incessantly curious and observant nature.”

Beyond the Capture

I love street photography. It immediately places me outside of my comfort zone, which is an essential ingredient for uncovering new experiences. Every time I hit the streets, I have no idea what adventure awaits me, and I find this simply exhilarating.

Although capturing candid moments is arguably at the heart of this genre of photography, what satisfies me the most is getting to know my photographic subjects. Although not always possible, it is gratifying to contextualize the capture with a story or a connection; this also opens my world to new friendships and perspectives about the people surrounding us and their environment.

The gentleman to your right is Maurice, a homeless man in Boston. We connected in May of 2020 via a casual and genuine sidewalk conversation. I was curious about who he was, and he was curious about me. This is what makes the adventure of street photography so compelling. My non-stop search to better understand our humanity and the human condition is intrinsically tied to my photography and beyond.
